For almost two decades, I have been using my vast experience in healthcare and diverse skill set to guide individuals, families, and businesses through the complex world of health insurance. In 2008, I began with Aflac in Chicago and by early 2010, I was employed at Harmony Health at Wellcare Health Insurance Company. Though the process was arduous, through dedication I was met with great success in sales, eventually becoming the company’s only sales trainer in the state of Illinois. As I advanced in the company; I found myself managing all community outreach within the state, all the while also working as a registered lobbyist for Fair Access to Healthcare and guiding countless individuals through the complex world of health insurance.
But despite my success, I was still captive. Forced to sell plans for just one company in a single state and as just one of four corporate spokespersons in the Midwest, I was on call 24/7. Frustrated by standard sales practices, engaged yet overworked, and in my opinion unfairly paid, by 2013, I eventually dreamed of becoming an independent Broker. The freedom to choose what and how I would sell became appealing. The only question was how? I understood that as an employee or captive agent how and what to sell is laid out for agents, but independent brokers must find their own way. Beginning in 2017, I was fortunate enough to find my first mentor and when I was ready, he introduced me to my next. In the following four years, I have cultivated the necessary skills to sell without stress, access clients in twenty-two states, negotiate favorable carrier contracts, and ultimately manage a successful book of business. I enjoy my clients and they appreciate how much I care about their health.
Now, at the Leb Group, I work with a group of mentors dedicated to guiding agents through their start-ups and developing true growth. I mentor because someone cared enough to mentor me.
